My husband and I saw a red tent on the side of 10th Street in San Jose and we smelled something delicious. There was a food stand there with covered seating. The menu was small. They specialized in something I have never had, Birria. This is stewed beef from the cows head. It's a delicacy from Michoacán. They gave us a slice of the beef to sample. Soft savory deliciousness. Three Tacos ,please!! They also make a Ramen with the heavenly beef broth. I spoke with the owner Pedro Sanchez who introduced us to his daughter Sarai and his brother Jesus. This family business is not just a Taco Stand it's a destination for something amazing and culturally relevant Birria. The tacos were absolutely memorable. The corn tortillas were the best I have ever had. They have a condiment station in the back with cilantro, onions, and salsas. I washed everything down with a Cantaloupe Agua Fresca. So refreshing. My husband said he could have eaten 12 of these tacos and asked why we didn't get the Ramen. His training is coming along. Life Changing food at this modest festive cheerful Taco stand keeping the tradition of Birria alive and well in San Jose.
Got the wet burrito $11) with chorizo and the super nachos $12) with carne asada. Very filling and definitely hits the spot. However, the nachos were pretty dry; I think some more pico or meltier cheese would've been nice. Also all of their salsas are super spicy so if you have a low tolerance like me they will definitely be too much for you to handle lol. The chorizo was really flavorful and good, but the carne asada in the nachos were a tad dry.
