The charming waitress, the one with the afore-mentioned smile, showed us to our table. It was perfect and the menu was a charming surprise; it was a miniature blackboard! I ordered a beer, I don’t know what it was; it wasn’t good and the 3€ price tag made it expensive. No soup is included in the menu du jour here. We both ordered the Gratin de fruits de mer entrée. It was okay, a bit bland and the seafood was scarce. The bread that accompanied it was stale. The plat a caramelised, short rib of pork for me was plentiful but, overdone and dry; a sauce would have helped a lot. My companion had the Beignet de merlu which she said was very good and reminded her of fish and chips in the UK. The noodles that were served with the main course were fresh and delicious. We were also given some, tired, green beans. The presentation of the main course on silver platters was a nice touch that I’ll use at Le Caff. The cheese course arrived promptly and was perfect. The desserts, a choice of three were all homemade. I chose the fruit tart, the pastry was excellent; I wish that I could make pastry like that for Le Caff customers. Lunch at Le Bakero is 14€ including wine, I would go there again if I was passing.
