We ate on their terrace and had a very tasty and pleasant meal. During the night we visited, none of the staff spoke either English or Spanish, but they were happy to work with us to bridge the language gap. The atmosphere was relaxed and soothing, and we left fuller and more satisfied.
What a meal... Have a soupe de garbure , and you can almost stop there! The soup is so rich and tasty that you will have difficulty eating the rest of the menu. If you do manage to continue though, try their black pudding too, it...is delicious. Thumbs up for this traditional basque restaurant, the waitresses are really nice and the hotel is set in a breathtaking landscape, close to great hikes such as the one to La Toutoulia. Have a drink on their lovely terrace, it is also a perfect spot to have lunch or dinner after a walk.
Excellent quality Basque Country cuisine: sumptuous and hearty food. Set menu prices offer great value. Friendly, small restaurant full on day of visit with groups, families, couples, locals. A great find, but visit hungry!
We gave up trying to find somewhere great to eat in St Jean pied de port and remembered reading about this place. A tour bus was in when we visited but they coped well and looked after us. Simple, typical fare at a reasonable price.
