Another favorite is a tartiflette-type dish that is heavenly. The farcement, which you must order a day in advance, is the best that I have ever eaten. Finally, the panorama is maybe the best in the French Alps!
Like some in this column, we experienced a very unpleasant, borderline rude lack of welcome. The service was atrociously slow, it took over 30 minutes for anyone to pay attention to our table, and forever to get served. The menu is very thin, no kids menu, no plat du jour. The only choice is basically any combination of salad, cheese and 'charcuterie '. Only one hot dish of potatoes and cheese, which wasn 't particularly good, and an omelette which was rather small. The cheese were disappointing. The only saving grace on our plates was the very delicious ham and sausages. We would have liked to get some Farcement but were told in a curt voice that this should have been ordered before. You would think they could mention this when you make your reservation by phone? The deserts were equally disappointing, a miserable tarte au myrtille with very little fruit and a chewy mediocre pastry. There are so many nice places in St Gervas, we will keep away from here in the future
A beautiful old farm in the face of Mt Blanc serves wonder French alps cuisine while sitting on the patio and enjoying the marvels of Europe's highest mountain. The menu is reasonably priced and the food is cooked on a coal burning stove....nothing could be more authentic!! A minor problem is getting there as you must do a little walking. It is about a 30 minute walk from the Bettex ski lift out of St Gervais. The walk is relatively easy and well worth the effort. Plus, you will enjoy some beautiful scenery.
There are many options on the slopes of Megeve/St Gervais This is a really lovely place that you must try The views cannot be beaten Chamonix Valley, Sallanches, Chaine d'Aravis and to top it all Mont Blanc in all it's majesty We only stopped by for a coffee but noticed that the interior is impeccable and the welcome very friendly It's warm and comfortable and we will return for lunch very soon To find this lovely place ski down the Mont Rosset red run, it's to your left about half way down a little off piste but not difficult at all We love places like this, it's as if a farmers wife has opened her own home to you as guests, so personal and not at a great antidote to the horrible commercialised megaliths that spew out intrusive noise in an outdoor environment (e.g. La Folie Douce)
