We always call ahead to order the rice roll takeout and 1) they don't always understand English and 2) they don't take names so they'll often give your order to someone else or worst, to someone they know first. 1/3 of the time, i end up waiting an extra 15-20 min! That said, i keep going back...
When it comes to Vietnamese food, most people immediately think of two things: Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) and Banh Mi (Vietnamese single-serving baguette). Vietnamese food has a wide variety of different styles from different regions. There are more than two Vietnamese dishes you should know.<br/ Thanh Xuan is a super small restaurant with only 14 seats. The menu is very limited with 6 selections of dishes. We heard Banh Cuon at Thanh Xuan Café is mostly well-known dish in the neighbourhood, so we came to try it.<br/ We took a quick view of the menu, and we chose two different dishes. We ordered a bowl of noodle soup (Bun Cha Ca Rau Can) and a Banh Cuon. Bun Cha Ca Rau Can is a special fish paste cake in noodle soup with Vietnamese Celery. The fish cakes were very flavourful, and the soup was nice.<br/ Food: Can Try!<br/ <br/ We ordered one Banh Cuon Nan Thit Tom (Banh Cuon). Banh Cuon is a dish from Northern Vietnam. It is handmade rice noodles filled with pork and shrimp. It also comes with a Vietnamese fish sauce dipping sauce (Nuoc Mam Cham) and some green lettuce. It was super delicious! Definitely, it was worth to come. <br/ Food: Should Try!<br/ <br/ Thanh Xuan Café is located in the same plaza as Pho Hoa. Address is at 2261 Kingsway, Vancouver BC. It has a few very tight spots out front in the parking lot. It is mostly easy to find free parking on Kingsway.<br/ <br/ <br/ <br/ Service: <br/ Kids: Meh! (has very limited seats)Price: $20-$30 for two <br/ Presentation: <br/ Parking: (suggests to look for free parking on the street)Explore the menu: Bun Cuon Nan Thit Tom, Bun Cha Ca Ray Can<br/ Tips:<br/ accepts cash only<br/ runs by a couple of Vietnamese ladies with very limited English<br/ keeps your expectations about services and cleanliness<br/ Would I Return: Yes for the Bun Cuon
I’ve been wanting to try Thanh Xuan Cafe for ages. Seriously, I remember spotting it from the car a few years ago. Their specialty is banh cuon and they’re located in the same plaza as Pho Hoa. Phoenix Massage is also right next door if you’re interested in one of those types of massages
I love getting banh cuon from here. My family lives far from the cafe but we don't mind going out of the way to get takeout from here because it's so worth it.
These rice crepes wow dude. It is the bomb wow. Do not judge the place on how it looks.<br/ My gf and I order one vegetarian and one meat ban cuon and it comes with salad, fish sauce, slices of ham, and fried onions.<br/ 13 bucks total, done!!!<br/ <br/ Update:<br/ The crab meat patty soup is so comforting on a rainy day, wow. Sour, spicy, crunchy, lovely seasoning from the crab, just wonderful.<br/ <br/ Update: <br/ Keep in mind there are two old ladies working in the back. Quality takes time and trust me they never rush quality. The whole Vietnamese community helps out here, the customers. If I'm seated and see people come in I grab menus for them, even tea, to their tables. There are others that bring dishes back to their kitchen. Don't forget to buy their sticky rice. It's filled with mung bean, pork, and egg, absolutely delicious.<br/
