Contribuisci feedbackIncredibly rude service from a male waiter. We asked for a green salad with some added tomatoes and he said it was not possible because tomatoes were not in the season. The funny fact is that the cooking recommendation for the day was an octopus salad...WITH tomatoes! The worse is that this man has spoken to us in the most aggressive way, even to point out that if we don't like it, we can also leave the water, we just have order. Totally unnamed for and would stop going to this place if you want to keep a nice feeling of this beautiful city.
Enjoyed some different tapas for a light dinner at our last night in the city. Really good beer to accompany tap) place is very clean and we enjoyed our meal
Situated in the hub of beautiful St Jean de Luz, this bar was a find for a casual lunch. The ambiance is quintessential basque with beautiful dark wood walls. The service and food are excellent. As you would expect from a fishing town, the fish...is very fresh . Try the Basque salad. This was one of the many haunts of Hemingway, so you know it is fun. Try the bubbly cocktail, MACCA’B.
We arrived exactly at noon, there was only one other table of people. We ordered steak haché for my daughter and I ordered the special (grilled fish). An hour later we still had not been served. Finally, after an hour and a half the food...arrived. The fish was mostly bones. The attitude of the server was lamentable. Maybe a great place for drinks and people watching but I wouldn't eat here again.
Deciding where to eat in Saint Jean de Luz is not easy as there is so much choice. Were so pleased to drive past Le Bar Basque and decide to give it a go just because there was a parking space outside and it looked pleasant enough. It turned out to be wonderful. The waiter was witty (we are English but do speak fluent French) and cheekily spoke to us in both as he served up truly delicious Sangria. Not the best ever but still delicious. We ate tapas as a starter. Very simple bits on bread but a meal in itself (one long plate between two). We then both at the pork in a delicious Basque pepper sauce (actually tasted sweet). The menu looked great but we live in La Rochelle and therefore didn't fancy any more fish so the pork was an easy choice. The Bar Basque is traditional and very cosy. Cool in summer and I would think warm in the winter. It really was lovely. The price was not an issue as we were going to eat in our extraordinarily expensive hotel restaurant but preferred something simple. Four glasses of Sangria and two courses each were 54 euros. A really pleasant experience. Will definitely go again despite the huge choice in Saint Jean de Luz
