BUT whatever you do not ask for coffee with milk....only black coffee....but you charge 4.50 extra....this is right..4.50!! It does not say that on the...Menu and the waitress do not advise us. The food was just ok and edible... I say that because of the overpriced menus... what you get doesn't justify the costs. If you left and paid the woman in the bar, don't even speak or smiled say thank you. We often go to San Jean de Luz. NO Many other restaurants to choose from.
Ongi ethorri means welcome to basque. We chose this restaurant by chance. The fish plate with mussels, sardines and calamares was very good, unfortunately the veal that my wife had chosen was somewhat too hard. Friendly service and otherwise everything is fine.
We have eaten lunch here a few times, they are one of the very few restaurants that remain open after 2.00pm, most seem to close. The best pizzas ever, good service, and good value
There are lots of restaurants serving seafood and pizzas here along the old town and they’re basically all very “touristy” type establishments. It’s hard to know which is good or better than the other so unless you’re prepared to spend some time checking out reviews...beforehand, you really don’t know what you’re going to get. Also, because they tailor to throngs of tourists, just keep that in mind in terms of expectations. Nothing will be haute cuisine. We just decided to pop into Ongi Ethorri based on the fact they were bustling with diners. We were after seafood so can’t comment on their pizzas or salads nor any other dishes. We ordered the mixed seafood platter, the Parillada, at 24.50€. A basket of bread came complimentary as well as a small bit of rice. I must say, it was pretty good. The flavours were beautiful, there was a good variety of seafood such as prawns, calamari, mussels, a salmon streak, and pieces of octopus. The disappointing thing was that the mussels were tiny. But overall it was still a very nice dish. We shared this between the two of us. Service was friendly and efficient. We did speak some French though so that might’ve made a difference.
We had 3 course menu at €24.50 per person food was very nice. Restaurant has a cozy feel. Staff friendly and courteous. Note: coffee not included in menu (this seems to be the norm in this area).
