Built in 1931 to replace the court nearby that the church handed over for a cinema, Leon Dongaitz was a local player, and so was Real Tennis Legend, Pierre Etchebaster, whose family bakery is just around... the corner. I was there almost 16 years ago, unfortunately it is no longer a hotel, but the owner's family leads it as a restaurant with great success.
This family-run restaurant makes a pleasant change from the tourist places downtown. Everything is cooked fresh, which explains why the offer is somewhat limited. The service is very friendly. Lunch is served until 3 p.m, which is unusual in the town. The restaurant is spacious...and nicely decorated in a traditional style.
Thanks to tripadvisor, we found this little, unassuming restaurant hidden away just off the main pedestrianised area of St Jean de Luz. The welcome was unbelievably warm; nothing was too difficult for the staff. The menu is short one starter, choice of three mains and one...dessert,but as the server explained, this is because they only want to use the freshest and most seasonal ingredients available. The food was absolutely superb. We had cold tomato and basil soup, hamburger for one of us, and Caesar salad for the other, followed by lemon verbena from age frais. Our children were kept happy with a great half size adult meal (although they did offer to make up something more child friendly and a huge bowl of absolutely mouthwatering sorbet for pudding. A fantastic meal and highly recommended if you are happy to go with a small, but perfectly formed menu.
I ate here for lunch, and I found the menu easy to be, and quite elaborate- I'm not a big fan of sauces replacing things like carrots. Why not serve carrots? This means his good restaurant at the end of Rue Gambatta, near the children Luft d'espace. The interior is Basqui and the service is very good.
This little restaurant is really friendly. Me and my wif were driving towards S. Jean de Luz and made a phone reservation for a late hour, and they waited for us and were really welcoming. The food is great (real french cuisine, tasty and traditional),...with reasonable prices. The place is run by 3 sisters, a very nice family. We shall return, as often as possible.
