The restaurant was empty and there were 3 people eating outside. We had our little, well-behaved dog with...ours, so instead of on a very small bistro table for two sets in the middle of the outdoor sitting area we thought it was easier to get the dog out of each and sit on a table at the edge. This table was set for 4. You could have sworn that we committed murder, she called us, cried again, did, gave us another row, did us even more, told us that the table was not 2 for 4 then went and told the other 3 Diners we were anger and she had to remove the 2 glasses and cutlery. The RESTAURANT AND TERRACE was EMPTY. We ordered Coq au vin. Well, it was not chicken from pork and it was burned and boiled over. She also spoke French and accepted because we speak English, we did not know what she said to us and about us. Unfortunately we live in France and speak and understand France. I really wish that this season she received so much restlessness and restlessness from her diners as she gave us. Terrible, terrible. What an rude old woman
I visited with two friends in early December and was very pleased with this charming well-run restaurant. Despite its being a wet cold day, there were enough customers in the large dining-room to give a cheery atmosphere but I can imagine in summer it would...be packed. The winter dining-room is at the rear, but there is also a front dining-room and an outside terrace under sheltering trees for al fresco summer meals. There is a good choice of menus from 12.50€ to 40€ with a nice choice of local dishes, fish and seafood being a speciality. We all chose the 15€ 3-course menu which comprised a help-yourself buffet with a wide choice of starters, then two of us had fish : a whole dorade and a generous portion of salmon, both of which came with excellent beurre blanc, mixed vegetables and rice. A friend had steak and chips which was generous and good quality. Deserts were standard but well presented. The wine 'en pichet ' was fine. Service was friendly and swift Altogether, a very acceptable meal in pleasant surroundings with cheerful staff. The bill came to 19.20€ per person.
50 years ago I had a correspondent born in Saint Macaire, a medieval village near the river Garonne. We met again and became very good friends. They come to Portugal and we visit France (both married). After a first time we were in the restaurant... Le Médiéval, I never return to Portugal without a last and always wonderful meal in this special restaurant. Best food, immediately served with great attention from all personal and his managers constantly lookinginf for minimum details!
This restaurant offers plenty of good food. Our appetizers of shellfish were diverse and plentiful. Main dishes of duck and salmon okay. Good desserts of sorbets and cheese. Good wine at the glasses. Very reasonable prices. Fast and efficient service
My wife and I decided to make a detour to Saint Macaire during our wine trip to Bordeaux. We stumbled on “Le Medieval” and really enjoyed it. The staff was excellent for culinary details. My wife chose Lamproie a la Bordelaise during... I went for one of her “Menus Dégustations” when I wanted an opportunity to taste so many things from her “terroir”. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the prices are very competitive for the level.
