I think this court is a shame for all French cuisine. The most expensive wine vine Chablis was... The bottle with water was a "small" green with moss on the bottom....
“Nous n’avons que des vues sur la mer” telephoned the woman when I tried to book a table before I announced À demain!” and the conversation ended. Apparently, I didn't have to book – at least at this time or year – and don't have to worry about the sea views. The La Terrasse is located directly on the promenade. It has spacious outdoor seating, all closed on the rainy day in October I went to eat there. Inside the restaurant is long and thin and in fact there is only sea view, although if unhappy, you can be a table of them. It was hard to break the French service, and that was no exception. Quick and friendly with the food arrive very quickly and well presented. I had the Moules-Marinières with cream. The shells were a little small and perhaps a little overcooked, as some were super sticky on the shells and rubber – but overall a decent dish had gone. My colleagues reported happy with their courts. When I finished my main course, I saw a table of French food lovers – they seem to have ordered a plate with several desserts – a bit like a sweet meze. The menu I saw “Café gourmand” – not something I had ever seen (or perhaps noticed) before. I ordered one right away. This was the true star of the show: perfect French coffee served with a variety of small portions dessert on a dish, here: Crème Brule, double chocolate something with a gooey inside, a Charlotte with raspberry and mango, tart tatin and cream. This raised the meal seriously and I would recommend to all those who visit Saint-Valery-sur-Somme to stop it there and try.
We went to St. Valery to have a look, discovered the market, had a look and felt peckish. La Terrace seemed popular so that we were happy for a table, were sitting fast and chose the old favorite of Moule Frites. You can say a lot... from this dish: quantity and size of the shells, many were discarded if they give you a spoon for the fleet. La Terrasse passed the test. Nothing special, but nothing bad. The service was efficient, although the place was very busy.
Just keep walking. While they did accommodate us without a reservation, the staff was indifferent and not overly helpful or friendly . I had the menu which was a Salmon tartare starter, a Chef 's cut of beef with pepper sauce and fries. The starter was...ok, just ok and it went downhill from there. Chef 's cut is code for the toughest piece of beef I 've ever had on a plate. The pepper sauce was too peppery, which I assume was intentional to cover up the taste of the meat. It failed in it 's task. The Fries were unsalted and over cooked. The dessert, until now I would have argued that it was impossible to screw up chocolate. The Mousse was thin and runny like it had set in the sun. I 've bought better in the grocery store. Overall the meal was very disappointing and I 'd advise you to find another place unless you are truly desperate.
We stopped here as Husbee wanted mussels, I normally have them but fancied a change. So I chose the starter version calamari as a main, and when asking for frites was informed that the main course version includes chips and salad. While waiting we noticed...another waitress who seemed to drop almost everything she picked up due to her very sullen mood. The moules were tasty and fresh, but my fish came out without chips and thrown down in front of me by the sullen waitress. When I asked where the chips were she told me that they are never included, and her attitude was so off that I could not be bothered to argue. But it didn't stop there, my calamari was cold, so I sent it back and it returned swimming in oil. To avoid further upset with my husband I ate it, draining the oil off, but its very poor to serve like that, and to return the plate to me with no apology, and just slam it down in front of me. I'm not sure what her problem was but she shouldn't be working front of house like that. Nice moules, very mediocre for the rest, and diabolical service from the one particular waitress. We won't return.
