Tempura didn't taste of a great deal and although the steak was well-cooked, it was pretty forgettable. The wine was good though. The main advantage of this place is the setting, which is beautiful. Sitting on the terrace on a warm evening was a pleasure.
It is unfortunate that such a beautiful setting was spoiled by absolutely mediocre food and service. A Gamba Verrière which had just been thrown together with a bit of undercooked lentils at the bottom and shrimp that tasted like it had been taken out of the freezer and thrown into the cup, limp and tasteless. No chef on duty when we asked for Eric, and only two staff on the floor including the manageress and the place looked full. What a pity, so much potential.
We have eaten here on several occasions, over several years, because we live not far away, and we have always been very happy with the food and the service However today we had a very good entree and main course but the dessert was of poor quality. They seem to have changed the dessert menu, and it looks as if they are not making the desserts themselves. Could be wrong but the mille feuilles was far from beautiful flaky pastry with a thousand layers but more a single sheet of cardboard. One of our party did not eat his. When we mentioned this to the waiter he said "Oh you didn't like it?" my reply was no it was not the same quality as the rest of the meal. He said nothing and did nothing. Not even sorry. Customer service nil.I was very sad that I had to cancel the reservation I had for 2 weeks time, I did not wish to experience that again.
It was a last minute choice but one of the most memorable meals of our week in France There were six in our party and we had a variety of entrees. All were good. The breaded shrimp starter was especially tasty. The price was extremely reasonable considering the quality and ambiance.
Chateau de Sanse is a small, boutique hotel with a relatively small staff that does everything well. We did not lodge there; but, were directed there by our B&B host. Preferably, all guests are seated at about the same time, after having had a glass of wine in the bar or on the patio. You will have already made your dinner selections, so the kitchen is prepared and organized. The multi-tasking wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The chef is very talented; and, will make his appearance when dining activity has slowed. Be prepared for a wonderful, three-hour dining experience. PS. the foie gras, and duck salad are excellent. And, the tuna. And, the steak. And, the desserts!!
