At night, if you can't enjoy it, the place seems a little dingy. I thought the prices were high (over eu100 for 3) for what was just a ok meal
This is a wonderful restaurant with freshly cooked North African food not only from Morokko, but a large selection of choices from all over the region. we were very welcome and service was relaxed, but competent and very friendly. we were barely out of...winter, so it was 't busy for my visit, but I understand that it was very busy in summer, with people spreading over the gardens at the brook charente. there are many seats in the open and a good parking lot. I wanted to try everything because I love to eat North African, but I had to limit myself! I started with the trio of briouaten (different hearty puff claws) and then I pampered with the couscous royale for my main lamb, huhn, merguez and kofta with a sweet and scoop of the cousin. what is beautiful at this type of meal is that they add the hats so they can decide how hot they want it. as usual, my eyes were much too big for mine, and we had to reject her offer from a Doggy bag as we were gone the next morning. to the conclusion I have overloaded the baked selection with Moroccan coffee with sugar. then I chased home! all have been washed out with North African beer and wein gris, that is like rose, but reddish as the French roses.
To venture out on a wet, cold and windy Tuesday evening in January and have high expectations would have been madness! We only had high hopes for great food and they certainly delivered. As anticipated we were the only people dining, but our host was...charming and friendly and did all he could to deliver a warm welcome including placing heaters right beside us! The restaurant is in a great location and we sat in a glass verandah overlooking the river and the beautifully landscaped gardens below. We took the waiter's recommendations and were given a banquet of delicious starters and then a main of couscous and assortment of meats and chicken cooked in a variety of ways. Everything tasted delicious and was washed down with a local (Moroccan) wine expensive for France but yum! Great evening. Will be returning to enjoy the ambience in the warmer weather, when i think it will be even more attractive.
We came to this oasis of hospitality on the banks of the River Charente near Saintes at the invitation of friends who had dined here before. We enjoyed a lunchtime table d'hote menu which was exceptional value, the service was first class as was the...food. We were fortunate to have visited on a warm sunny day and eating al fresco in the riverside garden was a delight, I looked at the main indoor seating area and if the weather is not so good for our next visit I shall be more than happy to dine indoors albeit that the gardens are a star attraction. A real pleasure to be repeated in the near future.
Very good and friendly. breathtaking view at the border of the river charente. great and real Moroccan eating. Thank you. we're coming back!
