An online tip took us to La Cocina de Toño for a tapas lunch. Located somewhat off the beaten tourist track, but within an easy walk from Plaza Mayor, this little gem seems to primarily cater to locals. Inside, it looks like a bar with...just a handful of small tables, but they produce some delicious tapas. Each of us ordered three different tapas from the menu, as well as some beer or wine. Most of the items appeared to be freshly made and the lady behind the bar brought us one tapas plate (per person) at a time. As we finished one plate, another would be brought. This turned out to be perfect. We were able to enjoy each plate at a leisurely pace. By the time we had finished all three of our plates, we realised that we were full. We were all impressed with the quality of the food. The oxtail was probably the most outstanding item, as the tender meat just fell off the bone. But the lamb burgers, the codfish cakes, the thinly sliced octopus and the grilled pork were all delicious. And to top it off, lunch and drinks for four persons was just over Highly recommended.
Excellent dinner. Enjoyed the so called Menu of the week which at euros is good value. Water and bread is included. Wine extra but is reasonably priced for this quality establishment. A delicious amuse was presented first of all, followed by a collection beautiful starters (you get all choice of great main course, fish or meat and a delicious dessert. All courses are well executed, beautifully presented and taste great. We were served by friendly and very capable ladies. Highly recommended!
Best ribeye in Salamanca!!! I enjoyed the jamón serrano and the other tapas. As finishing I suggest the Hinojosa cheese
We visited several places during our three-day stay in Salamanca, and this place was one of our top three. We were eating tapas and trying wines in the front bar area, which has a decent size bar and then several high tables. Although the bar...was almost full, the lone waiter was friendly and efficient. We ordered three different tapas: small bowl of lentil stew to fight the cold outside absolutely delicious mini-hamburger made from local beef tender and cooked just as ordered oxtail stew succulent and great value for euros We tried the following wines, all of which I would recommend: Orube Rioja Crianza Valparaiso Salamanca Madremia Toro All of the above for which I think is more than reasonable. We look forward to visiting again the next time we are in Salamanca!
