New China - Salinas

Been coming here for years. The sizzling rice soup is top tier. The service is great. I love supporting small family businesses so that is also a plus.

Staff seemed pretty dry and vague. Showed up to pick up my food 30 minutes before closing. Place was empty and all they wanted was to close and go home, I get it (again, showed up 30 minutes before YELP posted hours. Had the #4 Dinner Special $15. Beef Broccoli seemed to lack flavor but sauce was sweet. Sweet and Sour Chicken was mostly breaded. Wonton Soup was plain and simple, 2 wontons in soup. Egg roll and Fried Shrimp were inside food tray so egg roll was soggy 5-10 minutes after driving home. Thought they would be packaged separately. Fried Shrimp was mostly or all breaded bc I did not taste the shrimp! Should have paid attention to the number of stars business has but was looking for Chinese Food after 9 p.m. which is literally impossible.

I love supporting my local restaurant by my house. I'm lucky to have the family run restaurant that I can get good Chinese food late at night.
