Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse

While the staff was attentive as soon as I walked in, the food was very disappointing. I had the 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage and both were very dry as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for some time. The sides were the best thing about meal.

Augie’s has always been fantastic, but unfortunately, today was not the case. I ordered the 1/4 dark chicken plate to go, and I really meant to take it to go. After traveling 4.5 hours, I got home and was really disappointed. The size of the chicken was just too small. We’ve ordered this plate many times before without any issues. It would have been nice if they could have at least included an extra leg. Sorry, Augie’s, but I think it’s time for me to find a new BBQ spot.

The little girl that took our order acted like she didn't want to be there ?. But one of the cooks and the food definitely made up for it. People are sleeping on this place, it's PHENOMENAL. I was extremely surprised to find no one there on a busy weekend at the zoo. It's so tiny though I think it gets overlooked. Trust me, stop in, you won't be disappointed. Some of the best BBQ in SA hands down.

Our new favorite and one of the best BBQ places and ambience. We've been to many BBQ places and easily hands down one of the top 3. Portions were good. Brought two plates of beef ribs and chicken combo and there is enough to share with a 3rd person. Decent price. If you're from San Antonio or out of town, try out Augie'
