Instead, I went with her tofu burrito, which they assured me were vegan friendly. It was a standard burrito with rice, beans of choice, salsa, salad, and what I thought included one side of the guac. The tofu inside was crushed to resemble chorizo and was seasoned as such. Eating was fine when I came back to my hotel, but my problem came later when I was complaining about what I was charged. My burrito was charged $10.25, which was expected. Then there was a $2 extra fee for my Burrito and $1.50 for three extra salsas. Was that for the chips? I realized that they accused me of $8 for what I thought was a side of the guilt. When I came to my hotel and saw the laughing crowd of Guac, I just sighed. What should have been a fairly cost-effective meal ended almost $30. I am, of course, partly responsible for not questioning it at first, and think that these were simply high SF prices. Even if it is a full lunch hour, make sure that your order is your understanding before you pay.
I had a great meal there. I asked what I had, what was vegan and he immediately went to the Enchiladas, Potatotofu and the Jackfruit. The waiter confirmed the rice and the beans had no animal lard or stock. I chose the Jackfruit Enchiladas. I was a little concerned at the end, as he seemed very fast with answers without changing his view. Usually I get confusion, some run back and forth in the kitchen. Once he finished the order, I said no milk, he said no milk came back to me and my meal came without milk, no problems. It was great to just order, no problems. He was very attentive to often see how we were and it was very busy. Our water was never less than half full. I had a great experience. $19 for a plate full of food. People put expensive than a cone, but it was San Francisco and just a few dollars more than local restaurants where I usually wait staff down to get a refill on my drink.
Everything is crushed in cheese, even if not listed in the menu. Make sure you want milk-free.
There were some of us vegetarian. The food we had was excellent and definitely vegetarian friendly. We had Tacos, Flautas, Tamales and Margaritas, who were all amazing! The service was friendly and super fast.
This place is crazy busy and hard to find seating (at least at lunch time . You order and pay at a counter then go find a place to sit with a tabletop number assigned to you so they know where to bring your order. You get your own drinks, silverware, and salsa then they bring you chips (maybe, but you may have to ask and even then they may be delivered to the table next to you instead... . I ordered the combination plate with 2 enchiladas (1 with tofu and potatoes and the other with jackfruit , also came with rice and beans; I asked for them vegan of course and they arrived covered in cheese. Mistakes happen, but the server seemed to have trouble understanding what the issue was which surprised me since they have vegan clearly marked on their menu, though after a couple minutes he did take it back for me. Once it came back out it was delicious! The jackfruit was especially good! Maybe try this place when it is less busy for a better overall experience?
