Decided to order here before a show and picked up our food from the Veggie Grill in Santana Row. The queso was pretty yummy- had flavor and tasted nice. However they only fill up half a small cup of the queso so you really only get about 10 chip dips worth of queso silgo ha doesn’t seem like nearly enough for the price. I ordered the Tejano burrito and enjoyed the flavor. Only downfall was that the rice was crunchy because it wasn’t cooked long enough. I could set it aside for the flavor of the rest of the burrito but not for the price. For an almost $13 burrito I would really expect some cooked rice. My husband got the loaded burrito and said it was good too except the rice was also uncooked. Again, for a whopping $16 burrito the rice should be cooked. He said the Diablo sauce was all heat and no flavor as well so he would probably prefer medium. Overall the food had a good flavor but the prices for the amount of food and quality (rice) was not worth another visit for me. Veggie grill always has high prices for such a large chain restaurant. I definitely feel like they take some advantage of vegans with their prices. If the price doesn’t bother you then then is a nice option for San Jose since the city lacks Mexican vegan food. Hopefully the rice situation was just a one time thing. As always, the staff here was very nice and inside was pretty clean. Pick up was easy and effortless. I got the loaded impossible burrito with guacamole. It was pretty good, but the “cheese” wasn’t melted at all and the burrito fell apart easily. There also wasn’t much impossible meat. This seems like a good place to get a quick meal. Updated from previous review on 2022-11-10
I had the Tejano Burrito and enjoyed the flavor, but the rice was undercooked and crispy, which was a letdown. I could overlook that for the taste of the rest of the burrito, but for nearly $13, I expect properly cooked rice. My husband ordered the loaded burrito and he found it good as well, but again, the rice was also uncooked. For $16, we definitely expect better quality. He remarked that the Diablo sauce was just heat without flavor, so he would prefer the medium option. Overall, the taste of the food was good, but the prices for the portion sizes and the quality (specifically the rice) don't justify a return visit for me. Veggie Grill tends to have high prices for such a large chain restaurant, and it feels like they are taking advantage of vegan diners with their pricing. If the cost doesn't deter you, it can be a decent choice in San Jose, as the city lacks options for Mexican vegan food. I hope the rice issue was just a one-time occurrence. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly and the environment was clean. Pickup was easy and straightforward. This review is an update from my previous rating on October 16, 2022.
I had the loaded Impossible burrito with guacamole, and it was quite tasty. However, the "cheese" wasn't melted at all, and the burrito fell apart a bit. There also wasn't much Impossible meat in it. Overall, it seems to be a great spot for a quick meal. Updated from a previous review on November 10, 2022.
