I'm not sure what was wrong with me the first time I reviewed this place but I'm ashamed for only giving it four stars. I've been back multiple times since and its hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the entire Bay Area. It seriously competes with the Michelin star restaurants in SF. Everything is excellent from the service, to the ambiance and of course, the food. Try everything, its all great but personally, the local whole rockfish is one of the best dishes I've ever had. Its cooked perfectly and the combination of flavors is nothing short of mind blowing. I've had it four different times and each time I'm surprised by just how good it is. PLEASE GO EAT HERE IT WILL DRAMATICALLY UPGRADE YOUR LIFE!!
My friend and I went here for lunch. There's plenty of seating indoors or outdoors. They said their plates are meant to be shared family style, but I thought about it as tapas since the plates were small. For 2 people, we ordered 4 dishes which was enough food. We ordered the pacific red snapper tartare, mushroom hemp seed pate with truffle oil, grilled house-made viet beef/pork chipolata, and the seared rice cake which were all delicious but I wouldn't say they were Michelin quality. They only have street parking but we were able to find parking easily.
I was excited to finally try Top Hatter for my belated birthday celebration with my girls. We ordered mainly appetizers and and desserts since we had our eyes set on the dinner menu entrees. We ordered: Tissue paper good. It reminded me of a scallion pancake but in the form of an airy paratha with a soy dipping sauce. Savory donuts meh. Was chewy and dense . The flavors for the bacon, parmesan, and scallion was a miss. Viet herb salad scrumptious. It has a fish sauce based dressing and the veggies were nice and crunchy. It was great for sharing. Mushroom and hemp seed pate must get. The presentation was like a charcuterie platter and I loved the combination of the pate, pickled veggies and the perfectly toasted bread. Grilled viet pork/beef chipolata must get. Comes in 4 pieces and you'll wish you has the whole plate to yourself. The meat was tender and packed with flavor and paired with with the shiso leaf wrap. It leaves you wanting more! Mussels in coconut green curry broth must get. I loved this! The curry was delicious and we ordered a side order to dip to soak up all the broth. If you order the pate which comes with bread, the extra side bread isn't necessary. Labneh mousse must get. It's refreshing and you'll love all the textures in this dish. I really loves the puff rice and citrus combo. Fried sesame mochi OK. Comes in 4 pieces. It's on the sweeter side due to the coconut pandan cream it's swimming in. It reminds me of a flat sesame ball with the filling. Cocktail Old Milliner. This is like an Old Fashioned. It's good but felt like it was a bit watered down even though it was served with one large ice cube. Mocktail Cucumber trapper. Must get! It's refreshing and and delicious. It's not too sweet and has a tartness that's that's addictive. Ordering via a QR code. The server who brought us our food was attentive and friendly. Google maps was not accurate in it's location so I had to turn around. The entrance is located on a one way street. Theres street parking in front and on the side street. I'm definitely a fan of Top Hatter and would love to come back to sample the dinner menu next!
Great ambience, great food. Loved the patio style seating. Hidden gem for an upscale experience.
