Jack and Amalia have been operating Ava’s in Melaque for over 15 years. I suspect the reason they have so few reviews is that all the regular vacationers already know what a find it is. Good food served every day with specials 5 days a week. Tortilla soup is excellent. Drinks are strong and well priced. Beer is ice cold every time. Outside patios are available. And it’s the only place to catch hockey and football games. Lots of screens! This is the place in Melaque where everybody knows your name...
We stopped there for a cold one and a bite. Had a nice dinner there and a few beers. Met Jack and I think the restaurant might be called Jack and Ava’s now. Loved the chicken fajitas and friends had fish and shrimp ceviche. All of us enjoyed our food. Went back and had the bbq ribs which were tasty and plentiful. Definitely a good spot to eat. They also have satellite TV to catch a football or hockey game.
We ordered fish and chips. The order was substantial one order would be good for two to share. The food was quite greasy, Maybe the deep fryer is not hot enough. Onion rings are a nice touch. Mice sports bar.
We stopped in a Ava's, now called Jack and Ava's for our first try, for lunch. The server Grice (sp? was pleasant. The room/building is comfortale, with a high palapa roof with several fans keeping the air moving. We started with guacamole, which was okay, but the chips served with it were very greasy. I had vegetarian quesadillas which was again very greasy. I must thank them for making these as they are not a regular menu item. My wife had the tortilla soup sopa de azteca. The soup includes ribbons of tortilla again these were greasy. Other than this the soup was okay topped with the usual suspects avocado and sour cream. Jack and Ana's is okay if you are in the neighborhood but you may want to ask the server to ask the chef to go easy on the oil.
