While I was visiting a friend in San Sebastian, he took me to several places. I did not review many of the places, nevertheless, I feel like Junatxo Taberna deserves the time and effort of writing a review from my side. I am used to sandwiches and pinchos, and I have tried them quite a lot. This house, being quite close to the beach sites, in a quiet street as well, is perfect for you to grab lunch or a snack while you are at the beach, or enjoying the great sunsets at the pier. Their quality sandwiches are phenomenal. They come in great sizes and everyone will find something for their taste. Their fresh bread is quite important, as is the good energy and friendliness that the staff welcomes you with. I can speak some Spanish so it was all ok for me in terms of communication, but I could see some tourists that could not speak in Spanish, and the staff was ready to help them with a big smile, speaking in English – That, from my experience, can be quite hard to find these days in Donostia – where many bars and restaurants seem to be tired of the flock of tourists visiting in. They do also have vegetarian options, but I would strongly suggest that you try the regular ham and cheese sandwich, which comes with a delicious and huge amount of great cheese and serrano ham. Just amazing. Perfect for an afternoon snack, a lunch close to the beach, or even to take way home or the hotel.
Iratxo has a nice selection of tostadas for breakfast. All three that we had (tomato and jamon, avocado and mozzarella, guacamole and poached egg) were very good. Along with very well made coffee (which is a rare find in Spain), this was a great place for breakfast.
