First, let me say this. The place was conveniently located, parking was easy, and the staff was kind and accommodating. The atmosphere and decor are definitely above average, and we had high hopes after a long day riding coasters before leaving Sandusky. However, we found the food to be just average. I enjoy Mexican food a lot, and eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants, but this is the first time I found the food to be bland. Not to be funny, but it seemed like it could use a little bit more seasoning and flavor. Now there is a chance the restaurant is designed in a way to be different and an alternative from normal Mexican food, I’m not entirely sure. But, for us, it just seemed OK.
I want to give this restaurant a favorable review because it is a cute little place near the water with good prices and selection. It has lots of potential but at the same time there are details which need attention. The weather was blustery when we arrived in the evening, but it was so cold inside ~68 degrees) that we could not comfortably sit with a tshirt and sweater so we chose an outdoor table. The bartender seemed surprised by my comment, but wasn’t inclined to do anything about it. Despite my food intolerances and the need for lots of substitutions, the ordering process was smooth. Our server was exceptionally attentive to our needs, and I was thankful for her understanding. We ordered tacos and chips with guac. The chips lacked crisp, the guac lacked salt, the cilantro-lime aioli didn’t taste like lime, and the cauliflower both made us sick. I know this because my girlfriend got sick stomach ache and hives) from her 2 tacos, and I got sick from my cauliflower taco when I ate it the next day. Upon doing some research, old fryer oil can cause these symptoms. Maybe that was the cause. The cauliflower was pretty greasy. A couple of final notes: I LOVED the carnitas and beef tacos. There was a generous amount of meat and avocado. Also, I’d love to see Mocktails on the menu. Apparently they exist but you have to ask. Vegetarian options: They have lots to offer. Dietary restrictions: They allow substitutions and the server was on point. Parking: Lots
