I had a three course meal on this Tuesday Evening at Kanalkiosken. The restaurant is a small one, quite tight in space when seated. A challenge for the service, and if you are ok with giving the staff a helping hand in bringing some plates down the table you should be alright. If it's an important part of your experience to be properly served at all times, you would probably be better off somewhere else. However, if you put your value in the food more than anything else, you should try Kanalkiosken. It's well prepared food, and the menu offers good options both for fish, seafood as well as meat dishes. For starter this time I had beets and cream from Chevré cheese. Topped by pine nuts, trufle-honey, along with crisps made from artichoke. The mousse was delicious and the hints of trufle and the sweet from the honey made it complete. My main dish was veal entrecote which was served with arancini, which is a delicious side option with this meat. Arancini is risotto which has been rolled and deep fried. It was served well crispy and made a good combination both for taste and texture. A herby cream accompanied this dish and it was served on sauted greens. I ended the meal with chocolate and coffee, just a small finish but nice taste in the chocolate truffle. The main dish was quite big and left me full and that's why I chose not to go for any of the more robust deserts. In summary I believe that Kanalkiosken serves well prepared food. The menu don't stand out as over complicated but rather simple. To me, when the food is well prepared simplicity often wins! In this case I believe it did. They serve Pizza too, and I hear it's good! Didn't try it myself this time, but one in our company did, and she was happy with what she got.
Sandviken is a small town with many fast food joints and steak restaurants, so stumbling upon this restaurant was a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, the excellent service, and the delicious food. I have visited for lunch before and had a great experience, and this time dinner was just as satisfying. They are accommodating to food allergies, which is a plus. The only downside was that smoking seemed to be allowed outside, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for both lunch and dinner.
I went to Kanalkiosken a couple of years back and was dissapointed with the small portion sizes they served. However, this was not the case this time. We started off by charing a passion mojito, which was great. Exactly the type of drink I expected, not at all as sweet as some drinks can be. The calamares with chorizo mayo for starter was perfect. Good size and great flavours with the spicy mayo being the crown jewel of the dish. Both my wife and I had the tourndedos for main course, which I got served rare according to my order. It was one of the best peices of tenderloin I have had for some time. You hardly had to use the knife when cutting the meat and both the sauces were well made. The odd way of deep frying the potatoe was a nice touch, I personally love french fries, but this was better. All in all, a very nice dinner. The only negative thing to mention, which cannot be blamed to the restaurant was that the servings came very fast. This was most probably due to the lack of guests this specific sunday evening.
Expensive but decent food; few persons in the restaurang so if you desire company. You can even pick up food from this restaurant.
