The only highlight was the brisket mac and cheese, which we really enjoyed. Everything else was below our expectations. I hope they improve, but I won't be returning.
I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for the past few trips to Hood, and I finally made it there. However, they are currently going through a change in ownership, so they had a temporary menu. The fish and chips didn’t come with the chips (tater tots) as expected. I also ordered BBQ chicken to go with my loaded tots, but that was missing too. While I heard the fish was decent, my loaded tots were just salty and dry, with very little toppings. I’m giving it an extra star because the woman who took our order was really friendly, but I probably won’t come back to see if the new owners make improvements.
I ordered a three-meat plate, expecting all brisket, but what I received felt like a small portion more akin to scraps from a cutting board than actual slices of brisket. I went in with the hope that it would still be delicious, juicy brisket. Unfortunately, what I got was lukewarm and inedible. It was like trying to chew a mixture of dried leather and sawdust. This might just be the worst brisket I’ve ever encountered. If a ten-year-old novice chef had prepared this on their first try, I would seriously suggest they stick to their studies. I'm left hoping this wasn't actually meat from a cat, as it has soured my perception of brisket entirely.
The outdoor seating is fantastic, the tap selection is extensive, and the food is delicious!
At 6:30 PM, they had already run out of brisket, so I had to change my plans. I decided to order a beer, which was quite good, and a clubhouse sandwich on Texas Toast. Much like many Texans (all hat and no cattle), the clubhouse was primarily toast with very little filling. The first layer consisted of a thick slice of Texas toast, a tiny piece of overcooked bacon, mayo, and a tomato slice. Then came another piece of Texas toast topped with more mayo, a super thin slice of ham, and a thin piece of cheese, followed by yet another thick piece of Texas toast. So, as you can see, it was mostly toast with not much else. The fries, however, were very good. I just won’t be ordering another clubhouse sandwich! On the bright side, the service was excellent.
