The shrimp burrito was fantastic! I requested the shrimp salsa on the side, as it has a bit of a spicy kick that’s more than I usually prefer. However, I'd definitely order it again!
This is definitely the best taco truck in Orange County—an absolute hidden gem. Tacos El Catrin consistently delivers top-notch food and excellent service. My personal favorites are the Al Pastor, Cabeza, Carne Asada, and Tripa tacos. The Al Pastor taco is incredibly flavorful, and I highly recommend adding a side of pineapple to it—a must-try! The Cabeza taco is incredibly tender and rich, practically melting in your mouth. The Carne Asada taco has a hearty beef flavor with a satisfying texture. My ultimate favorite, however, is the Tripa taco. I always order the Tripa here because it's rare to find good Tripa elsewhere. Pro tip: ask them to make the Tripa extra crispy—you won’t regret it! Tacos El Catrin truly is a hidden treasure. I've been exploring other taco spots, but I always find my way back to Tacos El Catrin. Bonus tip: they accept both cash and card, but paying with cash is cheaper!
As for the carne asada quesadilla, I usually ask for light cheese but forgot this time. It was a bit oily, and the size was decent. The carne asada was better than many others I've had, and it wasn’t dry. My favorite carne asada is in San Diego, so it’s tough to compare, but I found this quite enjoyable—maybe because of the cheese! The service was friendly and came with grilled onions and a dangerously spicy habanero. The sauces were decent; I’m not a fan of the avocado sauce, but I really liked the limey green one. The red sauce had a smoky flavor. While the sauces added to the overall taste of the tacos, the meat itself was definitely the standout feature.
The fully loaded French fries here are fantastic—think of the dirty fries from Jack in the Box back in the day or Taco Bell's fries, only thicker and topped with delicious ingredients. You can't go wrong with any of the meats; the choriqueso tacos are incredible, featuring spicy sausage and melted cheese. Their tortas are also really tasty, and the bread is especially nice. Be sure to try the shrimp tacos, made al gobernador style with a spicy, creamy chimichurri sauce—it's definitely spicy but oh so good! The al pastor is well-prepared, cooked on a flat top with chunks of pineapple added for extra flavor. If you get the chance, try their strawberry horchata; it's delicious when available. Just a heads up, they’re closed on Wednesdays. This place is absolutely worth craving, and they accept both cash and cards!
