We decided to go through the marina to see what was there as we had heard there was a restaurant somewhere in the area. We were pleasantly surprised to see a number of small restaurants, we checked the menu in La Font del Gat and once I saw the excellent beef options, we decided to return this evening. (We love the fresh fish that is available in Huatulco, but from the Prairies, now and then I live a medium rare and slender cut of beef). We were immediately greeted by Senor Miguel, he immediately brought us a few killers Margarita 's that we clogged while we enjoy the absolutely spectacular moonlight look at the marina and the gentle sounds of the ocean. A complete contrast to the Christmas chaos and crowds in Santa Cruz and La Crucecita! I ordered the filet mignon and my husband had surfing n turf. Sr Miguel's Grill was about 10 feet away and we could observe how he prepares our meals. My was two hockey puck size and perfectly cooked fillets accompanied by a small house salad and made at home French french fryers. The fillets were tender, juicy and were served with one side of bacon instead of being wrapped in them. The meal of my husband was served on a spear, he had beef, chicken, shrimp and huge pieces of onions, green peppers, which were boiled again for perfection. Sr M brought us complementary 'besamo de angel' after dinner drinks from (I think) Kahlua and a creamy mezcal. In any case, it goes back to our next trip, it is worth a walk or a quick taxi ride, especially if you are after a quiet, romantic ambience with an absolutely tasty and well appreciated meal.
We were brought by a local family to this restaurant that belongs to the hotel where we lived. While we had never found La Font Del Gat without her direction, we are so glad we went there. Everything was delicious and fresh, the environment was nice (at the marina) and we were cool because we were out, under a shaded roof. The cook and the owner offer personal service. We had a fresh fish dish and beef. Both were excellent. We recommend you go there.
We stayed for a week at Marina Chahue in Huatulco. While we tried both restaurants in the marina. Both were excellent. But La Font Del Gat was like a personal cook. Usually we don't try places that are empty. Often in Mexico... that signals a restaurant that is not very good. But we decided to roll the dice and boy we have the winners. My husband's favorite dinner is hamburger. And the Hamburger he ordered was the best we didn't have in Mexico bar. And the shrimp I ordered should die. The wine was excellent. The margaritas were great. I can't say enough about how wonderful our evening was. The owner was thrilled. We tried to try out our very broken Spanish with which he was patented and went out of his way to make us welcome and tell us as much as we could catch up on where he came from and how he was in his broken English. It was one of the magical evenings we have seen in Mexico and we have been here for 4 months. We were just excited about the food and experience.
