Diana's Seafood Delight - Scarborough

This is the best fish market in the city. As a private chef, it’s the only place I consistently rely on for my dinners and events. The oysters and whole fish are outstanding, and the selection of fish and shellfish is the freshest you’ll find. If you’re in search of seasonal items like uni, razor clams, or soft shell crabs, they always have them in stock. Plus, their prices are unbeatable. I recently bought fresh Pacific halibut for $30 per pound, while other markets sell it for $40 to $42 per pound.

The oysters here are incredibly fresh! They have a "buck a shuck" deal, but keep in mind that you need to order an appetizer for every 50 oysters. As for the appetizers, the calamari is excellent, while the crab cake was a bit disappointing. The staff is very friendly, but service can be slow since there's only one person handling the shucking!

This isn't my first time dining at this restaurant, but it was quite empty during my visit. There was no wait even without a reservation. The food was as good as always, and the service was excellent. The only downside is that it's always really cold inside, so be sure to bring a jacket.

Unfortunately, we felt mostly ignored by the waitstaff during our meal. Our water glasses were empty, and we had to ask for refills. No one checked on us after our meals were served, and we didn’t receive a bowl for our clam shells until the staff noticed them piled up on our plates. It seemed the waiters were more attentive to other patrons on the patio and forgot about us. When it was time to pay, my partner left an 18% tip (as there were no gratuities included in the bill), but the waiter seemed disappointed with that amount. Honestly, I don’t think he deserved it.

The fresh produce was impressive, and to my surprise, it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday afternoon. I typically visit this place to grab some oysters, but I was pleasantly surprised to find live soft-shell crab, which I haven't encountered before. I highly recommend this spot and will definitely be returning!
