My partner and I are regular customers of The Wild Fig and decided to travel from Fremantle to celebrate my partner's birthday on Friday night. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Upon ordering our wine, it was placed on the table unopened by the waiter who then left. We found it strange that the wine was not opened and served for us, as this is basic customer service. The fish cakes we ordered were chewy and tasted as though they had been frozen. My Japanese chicken skewers came with minimal chicken and an overwhelming amount of green capsicum, overpowering the dish. The rice lacked flavor and needed additional salt and pepper to be edible. There was no indication that this dish was Japanese-inspired. My partner's linguine was watery, sparse on seafood, and also chewy. Due to our disappointment with the main courses, we decided to skip dessert as well. The restaurant was not busy that evening, and we noticed a large table being cleared but not properly cleaned before a new group of customers were seated. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the waitress, who apologized but stated that this was how the dishes should taste. Overall, we felt that we could have made tastier meals at home, and the poor quality of the food put a damper on my partner's birthday celebration. Regrettably, we will not be returning to The Wild Fig in the future and cannot recommend it as a dining venue. Sincerely, Trish and JC.
This cafe has stood the test of time. It has been open for a few years now, and regulars know exactly what to expect when they come here. I adore the cozy atmosphere of this corner cafe, and its convenient location is a bonus. We decided to try the Granola and the Smashed Avocado. The Granola was visually appealing, but the portion was a bit small. The Smashed Avocado was deliciously balanced with balsamic glaze and crumbled feta. Their breakfast menu is impressive, and the prices are competitive with other cafes in the area.
