This is my favorite place to eat when we come up to OOB/Scarborough a couple times every year. Fantastic food, and even when the place is packed the service is fantastic. Best whole belly clams I?ve ever had (get the crumb! , but you can?t go wrong with anything on the menu. The chicken nuggets (homemade are my daughter?s favorite meal too. Something for everyone at Ken?s Place!
I was looking forward to trying Ken's last night, but it didn't meet my expectations. The clam chowder had good flavor, but there weren't many clams in it. The scallops were terrible - chewy, with breading falling off and very greasy. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. It was a waste of $80. For anyone visiting from outside New England looking for good food, I recommend getting off the main road and exploring beyond Old Orchard Beach. We usually head down to Wells for great food, but this time we decided to try something different and closer to us, which was a mistake.
This was my first time at Ken's restaurant and I must say it was a nice place. It was large and clean with plenty of parking. The service was fast and friendly. A friend recommended it to us, as they often visit while on vacation. Although the lobster roll wasn't the best I've ever had (I still think Red's Eats takes the cake), it was pretty good and at a fair price considering the current economy. My wife absolutely loved the tartar sauce, saying it was the best she's ever tasted. The fried clams were excellent, not greasy at all. And the french fries were particularly delicious. Overall, I would recommend Ken's if you're in the area. It's definitely worth a visit.
I think this is 4 stars based off of what I ordered rather than what Kens is capable of serving. If it 's convenient for me I plan on going back and trying either the fried haddock sandwich or something else flavorful. The good: while busy, they have a big parking lot and seem to serve food relatively quickly. The meh: I wanted something light, so I ordered a Haddock Sandwich, baked. It was good but plain. That 's kinda how baked works though. I *DO* wish they offered blackened. The bad: the way they 've structured the line to order is haphazard. Very popular.
