We walked into this very old interesting church to be met by some very friendly locals who made us very welcome. The building is being renovated so don't expect to find a fully functioning café, They offered us a meal deal of soup and a roll, a slice of cake and a coffee for £5 it was all served very nicely by the locals. If your passing give it a try to support their work. The soup and cake was delicious and a bargain at £5.
The restaurant offers both outdoor seating and ample room indoors. The establishment is currently undergoing extensive renovation and restoration efforts, with a focus on preserving the historic St Aidan's church. Guests can enjoy reading books and learning about the restoration process through interpretation boards. Additionally, there are unique items available for purchase, such as socks. The atmosphere is charmingly eccentric and the food is fresh and well-prepared. There are also a few local books available for sale.
I love this small hidden café gem. I first visited in 2018 and recently cycled through Morebattle hoping it would still be open. To my delight, it was. I remembered sitting outside in the sun, sipping coffee and enjoying the welcoming atmosphere. It was just as I remembered, with the sun still shining. The café is not located in the village center, but rather at the last building on the way to Town Yetholm.
Hot tea and coffee. Delicious cakes. Interesting back story on the church and its past uses. Hikers arewelcomed.
Walkers on St. Cuthbert's Way will probably all stop in Morebattle for the delicious soup and hospitality of the Pedersens, who are restoring a 19th century church to be a cafe and place of worship. A wonderful project, and the refreshments are first-rate.
