Stayed at the Fairmont under the Staycation package which came with a comp upgrade to a king suite, free self parking, and $50 credit to the salon/spa. Nowhere on the site or in the emails prior to your arrival does it tell you where to go to self park. Tracy who checked me in deserves 5 stars, she was so kind, hospitable, and helpful. To start, the renovations look amazing. Very 1920s and the aesthetic is visually appealing and very Gatsby. Checked into our king suite and looks wise, it was very nice. But very clear that its still a dated hotel. The chain lock on our door was so rusty, I felt like I needed a tetanus shot after touching it. The marble bathroom is gorgeous. But the bed, oh man, that mattress, it felt and sounded like an air mattress. It was not at all soft. Woke up with aches. The couch in the living area smelled like putrid cheese so we didn't spend a lot of time sitting there. Most newer hotels have streaming (Netflix) options on the TV, but Fairmont doesn't, not even movie channels like Showtime or HBO. So we were left with only basic cable with commercials. We also drank at the Olympic bar, with suuuper pricey drinks. Service this night was sloooooooowwwww. We also went to the Penelope Beauty Bar--Sophia offered just me a water but did not once ask my sister if she wanted something to drink, before and after. I was also told during my massage to keep my mask on, but my sister was allowed to keep hers off. Very inconsistent. Fairmont is gorgeous and looks luxurious, but the service could use work. Only saving grace was Tracy.
We checked in on a weekday afternoon and Laura at reception couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. We were offered an upgrade for a fee and decided to go for it. Laura said that housekeeping wouldn’t be coming daily except upon request, but we could text for any needs. She was also helpful with directions to places we planned to go, and on areas to avoid. We went to our room which was lovely and quite spacious, especially the bathroom. Bed linens and pillows were great. Towels looked a little rough which was surprising since the Fairmont has a high end reputation. The bath products were nice. After a walkabout at the Public Market, we returned to the hotel and ordered a couple of drinks and a salad from the bar. The salad was good, and enough for two. Tired from our flight, we went to the room for the night. Street noise can be loud so ear plugs might come in handy. The bed was comfy, and AC worked well and helped keep the noise down. There were some ridiculously loud guests walking down the hall, and more quiet time signs would have been useful, not just at the elevators, but perhaps on every hall. Breakfast isn’t included, so on a couple of mornings, after a cup of coffee from the room’s Nespresso machine, we went to the nearest Starbucks or Lowells. BTW, it was a little surprising that the room’s coffee station had fake creamer. “Come on, man!” We are paying a high price for this hotel half and half pods would have been nice. We had two annoying incidents happen (a room issue, and a guest problem) where we had to call the front desk/management but they immediately took care of both situations. The concierge lady was super helpful, and all of the staff members we encountered were fantastic, including the doormen. As another reviewer noted, upon checkout we saw an urban usage fee that caught us off guard. We were in a rush to get to the airport so didn’t really have time to discuss or argue at that time. It’s kind of confusing and frustrating that even though guests aren’t getting daily cleanings unless requested, the room rates and extra fees don’t seem to compensate for the reduced services. I think we will be looking into this further.
We had a great experience and look forward to coming back. Their Concierge Sayaka was amazing she made sure our room was ready with the extra's I request upon our arrival and a couple other items during our trip. She help make it a special weekend as we were celebrating an important birthday.
This hotel is stunning and perfectly situated for exploring the area on foot. The newly designed lobby, bar, and restaurant are all incredible—don’t miss the hidden bookcase door! The pool and hot tub are fantastic, and the spa is exceptional. I would absolutely return!
