There is a seperate vegan menu which has five starters and five main courses, and several desserts (proper desserts like chocolate cake and sticky toffee pudding! . Everything we had was lovely. We met the chef and he is very keen on making the vegan menu as good as he can and wants to keep it going. It's so great to have more vegan options in the Borders!
After visiting the Scottish border eselheiligtum I was very hopeful to find at least a little bit away vegan on happy cow and we came across the cross keys inn. I was a little suspicious asking if a country pub would really eat vegan apart from the stacking chips and green salad option, but if we got there, we were very pleasantly surprised that the pub offers a full vegan menu. we had the pleasure to choose the vegan menu, even if we visited a sunday that usually has a traditional lunch and dinner menu. the options were amazing, from starters like garlic mushrooms to netzen like a vegan burger with all circumcisions or filled paprika (very popular product after the personal) until dessert options like the sticky toffee pudding (what was so good). the personal was very friendly and accommodating and I would definitely recommend this place to make a special trip there if they are in the opposite! it is a really nice and cozy traditional pub that offers such a great vegan menu!
After visiting the Scottish borders donkey sanctuary I was very hopeful finding at least something remotely vegan on Happy Cow and we came across the Cross Keys Inn. I was a bit suspicious wondering if a country pub would really be catering to vegans apart from the staple chips and green salad option but when we got there we were extremely pleasantly surprised that the pub offers a full vegan menu. We were lucky to be able to pick of the vegan menu even though we were visiting on a sunday which usual has a traditional sunday lunch/dinner menu. The options were amazing ranging from starters such as garlic mushrooms to mains such as a vegan burger with all the trimmings or stuffed peppers (very popular item according to the staff) to dessert options such as the sticky toffee pudding (which was so good). The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, even making a special trip to go there if you are in the area! Its a really nice and cosy traditional pub that offers such a great vegan menu!
They no longer offer a separate vegan menu, which is disappointing. The options available are just two starters and two main dishes, and I found the quality to be quite lacking. We tried the broken mushroom with chili dip, and the vegetarian burger. I’m not entirely convinced the burger sauce was actually vegan, despite their assurance. The chips were ordered, but there weren’t many on the plate. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place.
This is a charming traditional pub that offers a great selection on its vegan menu. The broken tofu with chili, lime, and cashews is absolutely fantastic!
