Called for a drink while out walking nicely decorated dog friendly no food on offer as yet hopefully later in year outside seating for sunny days and evenings will definitely call again
Excellent food and service now the pub has been recently taken over. New decor inside, making it much much cleaner and fresh. Nice and tidy, good range of drinks. Very polite staff.
I visited this pub, basically, just because it was there. I was spending an afternoon walking from Sheffield city centre out to some of the villages where I was due to sing in the evening, and after an hour of walking out of the city the first countryside pub is surely a welcome sight; even if it is located adjacent to a major A road. Unfortunately, when I entered there was absolutely no welcome so to speak. No landlord at the bar, no customers at the tables, merely a middle aged man sitting in the adjacent room mumbling to himself. The decoration, I immediately noted, made the pub seem like it was attempting to be a city centre dive, rather than an out of town local. The landlord did show up eventually, and although I could see what ales were on, I asked him of his opinion in regards to taste and price. He was clearly phased by the question, as if he himself did not know what drinks he was serving even on his own premises. I eventually settled on a Yorkshire classic: Farmer's Blonde; it was served at almost £4, far above the £2.50 one can quite easily find it for in the city centre! I did note that they serve reasonably priced food deals, but after looking at the photos others have submitted on here even the ones accompanying good reviews I must say I am put off from that notion. The landlord barely seemed to know his ales, the place had an oddly unwelcoming feeling, and there was definitely a touch of Farage about the wall decorations. For these reasons, I would probably walk past it to the next one on the next time.
Tried here after passing several times. Empty pub when we walked in which should have rung alarm bells. Menu out of date wrong prices on. Advertised outside as 2 meals for £5 at lunch time, but now £6 !! I had pie of day, chicken mushroom, no chicken or mushroom in it, just a tasteless sauce. My 3 friends all opted for Liver onions with mash seasonal vegetables, but no mash, so got chips instead , Liver ok but swimming in watery gravy with frozen peas. Eventually bar man came took plates we told him that Liver gravy etc not good that the pie was awful, but no comment, just brought us the bill without asking if we wanted anything else. We decided to go to a local cafe for coffee after. Never again, most unwelcoming pub been in. !!
