The staff, as always, was very friendly and seated us right away. Within minutes, we had our waters and both mild and hot chips and salsa. After placing our orders, our drinks arrived promptly, allowing us to enjoy the chips while we waited. The food was served quickly, and everything was delicious and just right. This is definitely my favorite spot for Mexican food outside of Mexican Town in Detroit.
Our waiter was friendly and attentive with drink refills, but sadly, it was hard to hear him since he spoke quite softly. As for the food, it was mediocre at best. My girlfriend and I ordered the combo platter, which offered a variety of items for $15 each. While I left feeling full, the meal was largely lacking in flavor and seemed to contain more lettuce and tomatoes than actual meat. My son had a chicken quesadilla with queso sauce on the side. He mentioned that both the quesadilla and sauce were good, but here’s where I found it very disappointing: the small bowl of queso was priced at $4.59, which I felt was outrageous! The quesadilla itself was $14 and came without beans or rice, which also felt overpriced. I really don’t understand the hype surrounding this place. In my opinion, the food and prices are not justified by what’s being offered. There are better quality restaurants nearby, or even a little further away, that provide superior food at better prices. I don’t foresee myself returning to this restaurant anytime soon.
The restaurant was bustling, even though it's quite spacious with plenty of seating options. When we arrived, we were informed that there would be a 30-40 minute wait, but we ended up being seated within just 20 minutes. Our server was friendly and attentive, regularly checking in on us and providing excellent service. The spicy salsa was alright, but unfortunately, the rest of the food was completely bland. Instead of the traditional toppings, they used a thick layer of mozzarella cheese on the enchiladas—essentially a layer of pizza cheese on the tortillas, with no red sauce in sight. The beans and rice were similarly flavorless and lacking spice. The enchiladas verde were, without a doubt, among the worst dishes I have ever tasted.
After years of hearing good things about this place, I finally decided to give it a chance. Holy ****, what a mistake that was. Why I didn't realize that most of the recommendations for this place were from suburbanite, non foodie acquaintances who are scared to death of ethnic food and think Outback Steakhouse is fine dining is beyond me. My mistake. If you're looking for good, authentic Mexican food, skip this place. Go a couple miles south to Las Tortugas or head to Oaxaca in Troy or Carnival Market in Auburn Hills...just don't go here. This place has some of the most bland, unexciting MEH-xican food I've ever tried. As basic as it comes. Normally I'm a chips and salsa junky, love the stuff. Needless to say at first glance I was a little annoyed by the up charge noted on the menu for chip refills. That disappointment departed when the first basket arrived. No salt, no flavor, reminded me of a catholic communion wafer. We didn't even finish half the basket. Rough way to start the meal. For entree, I had the wet burrito. I'm not sure that the chili topping wasn't Hormel chili from a can, even worse, it was cold. The meat and bean filling were bland, Taco Bell quality ingredients. My wife had chicken enchiladas. She had the same complaint. Her food was bland, flavorless and absolutely caked in entirely too much greasy cheese. All in all, it was a terribly disappointing experience full of bland, Americanized versions of Mexican adjacent dishes.
Great food! Even with it being dinner rush, food was delivered quick and hot! Service was great, greeted, and checked on several times ! Didn't get a chance to catch the waitresses name but she did an outstanding job!
