It 's now become our annual destination for my birthday weekend with our reservation coming up again this coming August. Can 't wait! We found our Queen room, located on the second floor, to be perfect with a beautiful view of the pool area the rear property grounds. Upon arrival, we had a little problem with one of the pieces of furniture, but maintenance came up right away and fixed it. Our memorable weekend included breakfast sandwiches from Stars Cafe (tiny place in town, but good food) and dinners at SALT Waterfront Bar Grill and Vine Street Cafe. Both meals were perfect. Relaxing days were spent on Crescent Beach where we rented lounge chairs and umbrellas. There is a bar/restaurant just across the road where we were able to purchase some adult beverages . Days were spent relaxing and listening to the waves lapping up onto shore, which made us feel like we were on a tropical island. While a bit pricey, treat yourself and your loved one(s) to at least a weekend getaway at the Shelter Island House on Shelter Island.
The room I booked was over 400 in October-I thought it would be worth it because of the advertised fire place. The fire place can’t be used-it does not have a gas insert and it can’t burn wood either? We were offered 50 off, but it’s not the point. False advertisement. Also our room #14 is right next to the kitchen-we could literally hear conversations through the wall-it was crazy. I’m not sure why they didn’t think of sound when building this “suite” which is really a room. On a very positive note, the place is very clean and kept up, the continental breakfast was nice, the bed and linens great, the shower in the room was awesome but you could still here people talking in that space, Just not what I expected. Maybe the other rooms are more sound-proof. I would have asked for another room if we were staying more than one night. Ask before you book. I read trip advisor reviews to figure out where to stay-so that is why I’m reviewing this place. It is quite pricey and should be worth it.
I’m almost ashamed to say that although I have lived most of my life on Long Island I had never visited Shelter Island before. To celebrate my birthday we went to Shelter Island for three days and two nights. Having read reviews for the Shelter Island House it sounded like it was exactly what we were looking for, and we were not disappointed. It is very well kept and our king sized room was nicely appointed and very clean and up to date. The bed was extremely comfortable. Suzanne the owner was welcoming and so nice to speak with. It’s in a good location as the Island is only 4 miles by 2 miles. They have a very nice continental breakfast with juice, coffee, yogurt and pastries. Great way to start the day. We will be back to the Shelter Island House, it was such a nice visit.
The Shelter Island House is beautiful! The front desk people are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and professional. The hotel is walking distance to beautiful beaches and good food. Amazing for a weekend getaway. Looking forward to going back!
Last minute stay for 2 nights room was great. People were so nice. Although the restaurant was closed they were very helpful. I definitely recommend.
