The new managers are really pulling out all the stops whole getting this neglected pub a face lift. Service is exemplary. Wine delicious. And their attention to detail with the menu, that includes a healthy approach to those of us who are vegan, is second to none in this village; even outstripping the newly revamped gastro pub, the King's Arms. If you want smiling service that is fast with a daily prepped and cooked meal...this is the place to head to.
We were passing through en route tunnel to France. New owners made us very welcome. Food was good value, tasty and interesting. Weave some feed back regarding the ambience of the restaurant which was taken appreciatively. I hope they do think about it as the food is really worth the visit but the atmosphere a bit like school dinner room. Needs a feminine touch I think and bit of thought on lighting. We would definitely recommend it for the food, the welcome and the service. They are very new there and I wish them well.
We stopped in for lunch on the odd chance and will definitely return again soon. The pub is under new management and it is an unexpected gem offering great food with a varied menu that changes every week. The ingredients are top quality and used in an inventive way, ensuring there is something for every taste. I I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of vegetation dishes, which looked very tempting even for meat eaters. My cauliflower soup was stunning and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his crayfish starter. After much cogitation we both had burgers and were not disappointed. The bun was lovely and it made a nice change that it was not brioche. The burger itself was substantial and very tasty, with a nice herby aftertaste. This was finished off with a lovely salad dressing and good chunky chips that were some of the best I've tasted in a while. Unfortunately we had to dash but we would like to return to sample a pudding which I've no doubt will be as generous and tasty as the other courses. Our experience was helped by the genuine warm welcome we received from the staff and atmosphere of the bar which was relaxed and charming despite being quite quiet as it was slightly after lunch; the pub is open for for food most of the day which is a huge bonus. This is definitely a place where you can relax and while the away the time. As this wasn't enough this is all set in one of the most historically authentic and atmospheric places I've been lucky enough to visit. There are plenty of old beams, bare bricks which are offset by a huge fireplace, which I'm sure is lovely in winter. We would both recommend this lovely place not only for the food but for the people and atmosphere as well.
Had a lovely Sunday roast today. The beef just melted in your mouth. Very tasty and really great value. It's under new management for the last 3 months and their doing a great job with the food and service, their very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go again.
