There is an English menu and if you have never tried tonkatsu the staff will show you how to grind sesame to make the sauce. All dishes come with unlimited rice and cabbage as well as if you want to fill up! It is a really cool place to escape the madness of Shinjuku, although popular, so there can be a queue. On our first trip to Tokyo in 2016 we visited a weekday dinner and arrived immediately, but on our last visit in 2019 we arrived on a Sunday and although we arrived at the opening, there was already a line.

If you're craving tonkatsu, this is the place to be. Choose your fillet size in grams and don't forget to try the Japanese mustard and white miso soup for an added twist.
I used to live in the Kansai region, so I have a special place in my heart for tonkatsu. I love the process of grinding my own sesame seeds and creating my own tonkatsu sauce. The rice and pickles are also delicious, along with the attentive and polite customer service. While there are many great tonkatsu places in Tokyo, I prefer Katsukura for its overall quality. It can be a bit pricey, with meals ranging from around 2,500 to 3,000 yen per person, but it's worth it for a special treat. The crab cream is also a must-try, adding a unique flavor to the meal. I recommend trying their Fried Oyster or croquette for something different. Don't forget to enjoy the rice, miso soup, cabbage, and pickles that come with the meal as well!
