The food was clean, the staff was excellent. The price was just right. One thing that stood out was the food was individually made. Some Chinese places have just precut veggies ready to go and stir fry everything with generic sauce. This was not like that. Plates average about $12.00. I will say this, the portions aresmaller than some chinese places but the quality is much better, with more quality veggies and not cheap fillers.
Friends took me here for lunch and this was my first time eating here. I was very pleased! The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, the waiter was helpful and attentive, and the food tasted fresh. I got a to-go order of Sweet and Sour Chicken for my husband and he enjoyed it for dinner!
This was our first trip here on a recommendation from a family member and we weren't impressed. We went at lunchtime on Saturday and had no problem getting a seat. It is a very nice clean building We ordered the Mongolian Beef Sesame Chicken. The Chicken Chowder Soup they brought out was more akin to chicken and dumplings than any soup I've had. And it didn't taste like any chowder I've ever had either. My wife looked it but I didn't. The Mongolian Beef was a hugedisappointment and tasted closer to what you get with Beef Broccoli at most Chinese joints. Very little flavor with just beef and onions. I could have easily eaten it with mashed potatoes. The fried rice was the other disappointment ofour meal It really wasn't fried rice like I've had before. It was bland and you might as well just order white rice. The highlight of the meal was the Sesame Chicken. It had big chunks of chicken breast and was fried and seasonedwell. Will I go back? Probably not. It just didn't impress us at all. Nice building, great service but the food needs an upgrade.
Realistically I cannot think of one honest thing to criticize this fine establishment over. I've been eating here for years now, the food is wonderful, cooked fresh to order. Prices are more than affordable, with lunch getting you a soup, egg roll and entree for around ten dollars per person. The atmosphere is wonderful, staff incredibly friendly, and despite always being packed I've never had to wait to be seated. Hands down when Chinese is on the table the first thought isalways Imperial Cathay. There are a lot of other good Chinese restaurants in Shreveport, but this place is the best. If that ever changes, I'll be sure to update this review, considering I so very rarely hand out five stars. A resistant hasto truly be near-perfect to hold that ranking in my book. Don't ever change, Imperial Cathay! As far as recommendations go, the orange chicken and the combination low mein are my personal favorites. With the chicken chowder as the soup.Along with all the fried wontons you can eat.
