I could not try the omakase this time, as I was thrilled by the selection of the options offered in the menu. we started with kajiki and toro sashimi spicy edamame nasu dengaku all were spectacular. I loved the tuna sashimi, it was creamy and simply melted in the mouth. at a price of $85 for 5 pieces, it was worth it. the aubergines and the edamom were spiced and very well cooked. our next cure included truffle ebi roll tebasaki Don’s okonomiyaki the roll was delicious. the tebasaki (fashion wing) was smoked and wore this delicious Japanese Yakitori aroma. the dons okonimyaki was the star. this fusion court has scallop and prawn with cheese on a flat brotpizze. with the famous okonomiyaki sauce and katsuo. all in all. will be back to taste more of their dishes and their omakase. highly recommended.
Tucked in a shophouse on Tras Street, Don Tori is very homely and cosy the moment you enter. Their service staff are very kind and professional. We has a chirashi and a wagyu beef truffle don which was very tasty! Just note that portion sizes are small for the price you are paying so just manage your expectations that you will not leave full. Don’t think we’ll be back so soon.
Restaurant is cozy and quality of food is good. Went there one late afternoon and tried their set lunch menu and some a la carte dishes.
At first glance this feels like a high end japanese Restaurant. The setting is nice and spacious with the choice of booths, tables or bar dining. I came here for a lunch and although he sushi and sashimi dishes are a little at the high end, you can see this is the kind of place with high quality ingredients. But having said that, there was also very affordable options for lunch. I tried the chicken teriyaki don and I have to say it was excellent at only twelve dollars. The chicken meat was good quality and the serving was a good portion. It was also cooked very well and not too oily or over done with teriyaki sauce. The rice was light and fluffy and it was topped with a runny egg. Overall it was delicious and very good value for money. There was a lot more pricier items on the menu and they look like they’re worth trying if you fee like splashing out for lunch or dinner. A place I would recommend for those looking for a high quality don or tori for that matter.
While the food was indeed fairly tasty, it certainly misses the was it worth it? mark. Two of us had two bowls of don buri, a dish of baked mushrooms, some tempura maki and two pieces of wagyu sushi. The rice on the don buri bowls was a little hard, but the seafood was fresh and tasty. The mushrooms had a bitter tang that prevented us from eating more than a third of it. The tempura maki rolls were tasty, but some might consider the batter too crunchy. The wagyu sushi was very tasty, but at $15 each, it was too expensive. With two non-alcoholic drinks, the bill came up to almost $140, which was too much given the less-than-stellar quality.
