The Chicken Makhanwala (butter chicken) paired perfectly with the naan bread. If you enjoy bread, the bread basket is fantastic! It includes plain and garlic naan, roomali roti (thin chapati), and tandoori parantha—all delicious! We ordered Jal Jeera as a drink, but it was quite different from what I expected and not something I would recommend. On the other hand, you can't go wrong with the Mango Lassi. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed with the service. Given the price, it could have been much better. The servers didn't clear our table or refill our water, and most of them were just chatting and standing around. We opted for dinner this time, but I’m eager to try the lunch buffet next time!
The salt lassi was good, and the long crackers were enjoyable, albeit a bit salty. For appetizers, we had vegetable pakoras (which mainly contained white onions), and we also ordered plain naan, garlic naan, and cherry naan—surprisingly sweet and quite nice. The chicken tikka masala was decent; it had a wetter consistency for those who prefer less dry dishes. The okra was nice and crunchy, with onions adding flavor. The grilled prawns were cut open and easy to eat, and they tasted good too. The tandoori chicken was tender and quite enjoyable. Interestingly, the food seemed better when catered by a friend who clearly knows how to choose dishes. On a negative note, the music was too loud, leading to headaches for two of us, and there was a moment when the microphone started malfunctioning. I would prefer they skip the Indian music and singing altogether.
Fantastic North Indian cuisine! I've tried many Indian restaurants, but this one stands out. Every dish I sampled today was exceptional.
I had a splendid time at Shahi Maharani. In my context I feel that this place is lush and posh. I had Chicken Makhanwala, Palak Paneer and Bengali Fish Curry with my Garlic and Butter naan. They are flavorful and delicious. I would prolly order 1 gravy dish in future. I had so much gravy that added complexity to the naan. LOL! As I was sitting at my table, I noticed a lot of hot plate being served out. And I was intrigued by the smell and flavour that I had to just ask the service crew what it was. Tandoori Paneer, the crew explained to me it's cottage cheese and peppers laced with a creamy marinade. The service was excellent n warming.
It is known as one of the best restaurants in Singapore and definitely lives up to the reputation. The service is great and the food is even better. Try the kulfi sampler for sure!
