Greens and mac and cheese were good also. Can 't go wrong with the sweet tea, I had 3 glasses! Nothing to complain about here. Plus a great value with the family lunch. Recommend
While enjoying a small pre-vacay before leaving for our cruise, we came across Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken. First we ordered it via Uber the. Ugh t before as a late dinner. We loved it so much, that we went there for lunch today. It was even better than the night before. The dining area was clean and COOL, and our waiter Jordan was awesome. We ordered, the Fried Chicken Breast special, chicken tenders, Mac and Cheese, French fries, and my favorite, Fried Pickles I dug into those before taking a picture).Try it, it won’t disappoint. They do have desserts, but we were too stuffed.
Very good food. Very good, not great. There are a few gas station food marts in the NOLA area that have fried chicken that will knock your socks off. Gus's was very good but will not knock your socks off.Server was OK. Nice young man. Just tentative and not professional. Did not have good menu knowledge. Poor training, or maybe no training at all.Fried pickle spears were excellent. Potato salad was very average. Atmosphere was very nice.My chicken leg was fresh and very hot, but my 2 thighs were just warm and gave the illusion of being cooked 15-20 minutes sooner than the leg.It was good, I'm glad we tried it but probably not a place I'd return to.I understand the chain started in Tennessee. We are huge fans of Hattie B's Hot Chicken, so that's why we tried this place. They can't touch Hattie B's fried chicken, in my opinion. I'm only comparing the quality of the fried chicken in that statement, these are two completely different styles of fried chicken, but Hattie B's Hot Chicken HAS to start with great fried chicken. And I like it a lot more than Gus's.
Part of my order was wrong. I had it delivered to my hotel room via Doordash. I ordered a white 2 piece snack, I got 1 breast and 1 thigh and I did not get the bread with it. I also had asked for 2 ketchup packs and 1 hot sauce that was not included. The chicken was very good
The food was pretty good, but the wait and the service definitely impacted my overall impression of the place. I 've worked in the restaurant industry and know there are some pretty simple fixes here. You need at least one more waiter on duty and 2 food servers supporting the wait staff. It took forever to get the food, and we had to beg for drink refills. Like I said before the food was tasty, but the service left a stronger taste in my mouth. I would go again, but it 's not a must have in New Orleans.
