Lola's Lounge Cantina - Smithfield

It’s quite difficult to write a review for a restaurant that is closed! I made a reservation through OpenTable days in advance and received an email to confirm it the day before. I even got a text message reminding me, so I was still planning to go. However, when my wife and I arrived, the restaurant was locked up tight! Clearly, OpenTable wasn’t informed that the restaurant had closed, and the owners’ website stated they were open. I’m extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled. Someone needs to take responsibility for communicating that the restaurant is closed — whether it’s the owners or OpenTable.

The fajitas were overcooked and overpriced. However, the empanada and tacos were delicious. The atmosphere and service were both outstanding!

The atmosphere has a gritty Mexican feel, featuring dim lighting and Día de los Muertos decorations. The food was decent, but the service was excellent.

This was my third time to Lola's. We really enjoyed the food and ambiance the first two times. However, last Saturday, the service was awful. We had reservations for 7 pm a party of 7 and were sat immediately. However, it took 2 hours to get our appetizers and drinks were very slow. I believe the server was overbooked but didn't make an effort to try to rectify their shortcomings. If we return, we may try a week night but it's too bad because their food is fresh and well-made. In the end, the manager comped our apps but it still left a bad impression on friends we brought their for the first time.

It felt very chaotic in there, almost as if no one had worked in a restaurant before. We didn’t find the experience enjoyable at all. When I asked what was in the items I was ordering no one could tell me and had to go back to the kitchen to find out. Then it was described to me incorrectly and I wasn’t able to enjoy my dinner.
