Every year we drive to Sögel to the hunting castle Clemenwerth. There is a wonderful complex to visit. The castle is one of the most interesting cultural monuments in northern Germany and the world's only ever preserved Alleester complex. Eight Lindenalleen lead to the center, the hunting castle. The building is surrounded by eight pavilions. Among them is the castle chapel with a capuchin monastery that is still active today. It was built in 1737 to 1747 according to plans of the famous Baroque architect Johann Conrad Schlaun. The architect was the prince and archbishop of Cologne, Clemens August, from Wittelsbach. He was also called “Lord of the Five Churches” because he also owned the bishop chairs of Paderborn, Münster, Hildesheim and Osnabrück. From 1732 he took the title “Hochmeister der deutschen Ordnung”. For food, the castle cellar is on the grounds. The dishes are good and cost-effective, and small items are also offered there. Last year, the small feast was planned in the big garden, so strange walks ran around in the garden. Students with triangles measured the facility. After we had strengthened there, we ordered tickets for the summer event, which takes place every two years. March 2012 the restaurant Café Schlosskeller Clemenwerth is open again half-day (from 12 pm). Under new direction: [here link]
