When we wanted to order desserts, we were informed that the kitchen had already closed. It would have been helpful if they had informed us earlier and asked if we wanted to order anything else. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common issue as other patrons have also been discussing the poor service. I used to be a regular customer, but I am now considering trying out other pub restaurants in the area.
The pub still has a nice atmosphere as usual, but these days the menu is a bit limited and on the expensive side. The burger was not great. There are many young staff members, but not enough management, leading to slow and frustrating service. Overall, the quality of the place has decreased. Hopefully, someone in charge can bring it back to its previous standards.
Overall, the experience was positive. The chicken skewers, which were supposed to come with flatbread, were actually served on puff pastry instead. This was disappointing and there was no explanation given for the substitution. Additionally, the portion of sticky toffee pudding ice cream was quite small compared to the waffle ice cream.
This was without a doubt the worst dining experience that I have had in many years. Upon arrival we were seated in the dining room which was very quiet with only one other table occupied. We then waited minutes before we were offered a drink. Thirty minutes in our food order was taken, at which point we were told there was no steak'. There were six main courses on the menu, two of which were steak which all three of us had intended to order. Unabashed we ordered two soups and a gravlax starter, were were then told that there was no gas working in the kitchen and that some of our food would have to be prepared in the adjacent farm shop Our starters were OK' at best. When our main courses arrived they were.. Fish Chips, tepid and dry. An over cooked, barely warm burger and a plate of the most unappetising, inedible muck I have ever been given. Ham, egg and chips. I didn't try the ham or the chips, as the eggs were ice cold and rock solid (I was later told that they had had to be cooked in the oven as there was, yes, no gas). Why a restaurant would operate in this way I have no idea. If you don't have the facility to cook, stop seating people in your restaurant and trying to wing it' I returned the food and asked for the bill. When it arrived the H, E C had been taken off, this was the only concession that was made. The waiting staff were very apologetic, the person whom I assumed was the manager, not so much. She seemed genuinely put out that we were unhappy! We received our starters an hour after we were seated and our mains minutes later. I said I would not pay for the main courses as the whole thing was a fiasco which was met with the retort you ate the burger I said that if the mains weren't taken off of the bill I wouldn't pay anything and so they were grudgingly removed This pub/restaurant is far from cheap, but I have eaten a there lot. The food is usually good, sometimes very good, but this was unacceptable in every way
Three of us went for lunch on Saturday December. My husband and I had been previously and were highly impressed by the warm reception, great service and good food. Unfortunately this visit was the complete opposite. There didnât appear to be any management in charge and the staff were young and not very attentive. We waited at least minutes for our drinks and had to ask the waitress to check if they were coming. The restaurant was very quiet so they werenât exactly rushed off their feet. My husband had the wild mushroom starter which was disappointing a thick sauce covered everything and obliterated any flavour of the actual mushrooms. The breadboard was supposed to come with a garlic confit, which was missing cloves of garlic floating in balsamic vinegar is NOT a confit My main couldâve been wonderful grilled chicken on a flatbread with coleslaw and salad. It should have been refreshing but the coleslaw was smeared thickly over the flatbread which turned the whole dish into a soggy mess and I left most of it. The scampi my friend had was lovely and my husbandâs halloumi burger was ok but nothing special. All in all, it was a very disappointing visit compared to our first visit. I appreciate that itâs a difficult time with Covid causing all sorts of issues (none of the staff wore masks by the way not good! but there is no excuse for poor service and mediocre food. Probably wonât be returning, which is a real shame.
