Just had a stop off at this pub after reading the reviews. It stood out from many pubs in the area being boutique and in such a nice location, not to mention the high customer rating, I made the extra effort to see it for myself. I came with my 2 daughters, ages 9 and 2 for lunch, whilst my wife was running an errand. Upon entry I saw a customer in front of me being greeted and welcomed in, so I naturally thought I will wait my turn...unfortunately was shunned (by numerous staff members) even to the point I thought they were making eye contact with me only for them to be engaging other patrons behind me. Was a little confused at that point and headed to the bar area. Got my pint and 2 juices for my daughters. Asked if there is any seating, and was informed everywhere has been taken or booked, asked another staff member and the answer was no. Asked if there is any seating outside, the answer is yes! As I was walking out with my 2 daughter to have our drinks, I saw another set of customers (4 in total) who did not book and suddenly space became available to them. Not to mention they were greeted almost immediately, whereas I was simply ignored. I am 6'4 and not easy to miss. I did sit outside and my 2 year old started saying its too cold. So, went inside and saw a table available so sat down with my daughters. Eventually my first interaction with staff was that I had to vacate the table in 30 minutes as its booked, but I did make it clear others who had not booked were easily seated, of which she did not provide any reply. Was offered chips as the only option from menu in that short duration of which I declined. I just wanted my drink and then left. I would usually just have dismissed this as a misinterpretation or just a one off, the way we were shunned by numerous staff members and almost targeted feels absolutely awful in this day and age. I am a British Indian...did that play a part? I see some reviews where family were offered blankets in colder weather...how nice! But for me and my 2 daughters...its OK for us to sit in a cold climate? Terrible experience, the clientele seemed really nice, what was awful were the staff and strongly recommend they take some diversity and inclusion training. Was I asked if I wanted a table? No. Utterly shambles and has left a bitter taste. Reason I am leaving a review today is for staff on duty in particular. You know who you are and customer service is paramount in your industry. Immerse yourself in a magical and enchanting experience at this traditional gem in a beautiful city! My friend and I decided to try it based on reviews, and it was a blessing! The menu is tantalizing, leaving you in awe of what to choose. Fortunately, the friendly owner, Sean, is always there to recommend his delicious creations. We couldn't resist the Game hotpot finishing with the unbelievable stick toffee pudding yummy its marvelous flavor has me counting the days until my next visit!
