Nick is the beer master! Had a great time on his tour! Thank you Burlington Brew Tours!
We took the brew tour in Burlington last Sunday and we had a great time! Ours was a bit of an unorthodox tour, as the tour bus had some issues that day (happens). City tours called us and warned us of the problem and delay which was fine, as we were being picked up at our hotel. They resolved the problem quickly and our guide was there and ready to go within 15 minutes of the originally scheduled time. Our guide Lauren was fantastic! She handled the mishap with grace and without skipping a beat. City tours had to have Ubers take us from brewery to brewery which worked out perfectly fine in the end.On to the tour itself, we were a smaller group, which I loved! We stopped at 4 locations and we sampled A LOT of beer. (I don’t understand the reviews saying you barely get 3 drinks because by the end of it my husband and I could barely drink the last beers)We got behind the scenes tours at 2 of the breweries. Goodwater was my personal favorite. Lauren gave us a phenomenal history lesson along the way, which I fully nerded out to. All in all, it was a really fun experience that both, my husband and I, would recommend trying!
The tour was amazing! Lauren is an expert on all things Vermont and we received a great history lesson and background on all of the breweries and sites! I highly recommend this tour. Ask for Lauren
We did not enjoy the brew tour and frankly thought it was an incredibly overpriced, lacking experience. The single behind the scenes tour was extremely basic and had no interaction from the brewers themselves, which I think is pretty standard in a brewery tour. The tour did not allow you to pick beers to sample from the full brewery list but instead you were told you had to pick 1 of 3 options or everyone had to get the same beer with a group that enjoys beer but each person has very different tastes, that was really limiting. We also had three girls who do not drink beer, which I should have asked about ahead of time, but I forgot and overall, our tour guide was not accommodating. She made them say they had an allergy in order to get an alternative drink, and then proceeded to serve them beer (alongside gluten free pizza, so the allergy was not forgotten) at the next 2 stops until I finally asked if they could (again) have a different option. Our tour guide was not particularly engaging or friendly, which seems like table stakes for a brew tour guide. We were picked up late but despite that, our guide stood over us from 8:50 on (quite literally stood over our table and kept checking her watch) until at 8:59 she rushed us all with half full drinks into the bus to drive home. I understand needing to stay on a schedule but after a late pickup I thought we would have a bit more leniency. For almost $160 per person, we felt that we got a grumpy driver and the equivalent of 3 drinks and some pizza and some girls barely even got 1 drink, as it took a long time to get any beer alternatives and by the time they received their beverages we had to leave 5 minutes later. I know that some of this might just be poor chemistry between our guide and our group, but overall we were really dissatisfied with the tour. The other reviews for this tour don 't indicate this type of experience so hopefully it was just a (very expensive) fluke.
