While the drinks are still fine, I would recommend avoiding the food. I ordered the chilli con carne and found it lacking compared to what I have had at other restaurants. The tortillas seemed to have been microwaved and the rice appeared to be from a pouch, both shortcuts that affected the overall quality of the dish. I have given this place multiple chances, but I will not be returning for food again. I would suggest finding another place to eat as there are many great alternatives nearby.
I recently visited this restaurant for the first time in years, since it was known as Hobgoblin. The decor was nice and there was good music playing. The friendly and knowledgeable staff recommended the vegan tacos, which were a good size and delicious. I also tried the cheeseburger, cooked perfectly with onion marmalade. For dessert, we had sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream and pear sorbet (recommended for pear lovers). My partner loved the espresso martinis. A unique feature was the electronic train station timetable behind the bar, allowing customers to relax with a pint without worrying about missing their train.
This pub, located opposite Forest Hill station, is a delightful spot to visit. Just be sure to say your prayers before crossing the South circular! The beer is lovely and refreshing, especially on a hot day, and the staff are wonderful. I had a little trouble using the app to find my table number, but eventually found it on the qr code tile. Despite feeling a bit silly for a moment, I enjoyed the food specials board and had a very enjoyable visit overall. I recommend giving it a try. PS. The ex industrial lamps above the bar and the train departure board behind it are great touches, even though I may have missed a train while enjoying an extra pint!

I was quite disappointed with my recent experience at The Signal. When I visited on a Saturday night, there was only one staff member working behind the bar, causing long wait times. Additionally, there was no chef on site, so no food was available. I ordered two pints of Diet Coke for £4 each, but they tasted like soda water because the syrup had run out. The bartender offered a 330ml bottle as a substitute for £8, which was not worth the price. It seems like the management may be facing financial pressure, as the overall standards have dropped. Instead of investing in new TVs and an expensive sky subscription, it would be better for them to focus on improving the basics such as having enough quality staff to cover shifts and proper stock management.
