I am writing this review on behalf of my parents, who do not use computers. We visited the Wheatsheaf today and my father was offered a steak as soon as we walked in, as they know he likes it. He was very pleased with the steak, saying it was delicious and he really enjoyed his lunch. Thank you for being so hospitable towards my parents, it is greatly appreciated.
Treat yourself to Sunday lunch at this restaurant - you won't be disappointed. The portions are enormous, with side dishes of at least 3 vegetables and 2 servings of potatoes. Everything is cooked perfectly and served piping hot. The desserts are also delicious, but after such a hearty main course, you won't have room for them. You may find yourself not feeling hungry for the next 2 days!
After seeing glowing reviews we decided to pay a visit on Friday lunchtime. Checking the opening hours first being shown as 12-2 weekdays. When we arrived the lady behind the bar was saying farewell to a couple, the only customers in the pub. I said we (three of us) would like to eat, but was the informed they had stopped doing food as they were closing soon. I queried this as it was 1.15 and the Yell listing said 12-2, yes the lady said said but we stop food at 1. I understand not wanting to be open all day but 12-1 is a really restrictive window, to enforce on customers To turn away three potential customers, when the pub was empty is beyond belief in this day of village pubs closing through lack of trade. It was clear the staff were more interested in being out the door at 2. We did think the entrance was tired and grubby, the steps down into the bar had black/yellow tape to warn, which was ripped and poorly maintained. We will not return or recommend.
My husband and myself eat and drink regularly at The Wheatsheaf and do not recognise any of the details in your recent review. Owners, Paul Sharon, are always welcoming and eager to please, often going out of their way. Poor state of repair !! The Wheatsheaf is a well cared for village Public House Restaurant with a homely and comfortable feel, with the owners showing pride in their establishment. Food is excellent, and value for money.
