Courtyard Cafe - South Lakeland

After visiting the gardens we had breakfast buns in the Courtyard Cafe.. we both had smoked bacon and fried egg which was delicious. My wife had tea and I had a bottle of Hawkshead pale ale. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

All locally produced food here venison burgers were super. It was nice to sit outside and have a (locally made) beer too. Worth a visit.

I had almost finished my meal before my husband's arrived. For some reason his had been delayed. No explanation, no apology. When I complained at the end and asked why my meal could not have been held back until his was ready, I was told that if we wanted to eat at the same time, I should have brought mine back!! A special birthday we will always remember.

A group of seven of us went to this restaurant and rearranged some furniture, getting some naughty looks in the process lol. The coffee was strong, hot, and had a nice creamy top. Tea drinkers were also happy with their drinks. The scones were freshly baked, large, and came with cute individually wrapped butter pats. There was no weird aftertaste in the scones, and they were well-made. The jams and other accompaniments were all good quality. The sandwiches were made with thick brown artisan bread and were generously filled. The coleslaw was excellent and made with high-quality ingredients. Everything was served quickly with a couple of smiles. I almost didn't come here because of some negative reviews, but I'm glad I did. It seems like those reviews might have been unfair, possibly due to COVID restrictions on staff. Don't let them discourage you - you'll miss out on a great lunch. We all agreed that it was excellent value for money. It's true what they say - you get what you pay for.

Lovely to visit after a walk around the grounds. Good choice of snacks and meal at reasonable prices. Great staff.
