Sunday lunch for my daughter's birthday excellent food service from friendly staff accommodated children's food choices highly recommended 5 star all the way
Sunday Lunch in the Bistro, superb meal, full of flavour, hot, well presented. The service was just right, attentive without being too much. The price although not cheap was about right for the quality of the food. I would definitely recommend this place.
We booked a table for 2 to celebrate our wedding anniversary having heard that the restaurant was very good. It started well. We were greeted and had drinks served in the garden in the evening sunshine. I will be back in 5 minutes to take your order . 30 minutes later I went to find someone and eventually found a pleasant young lady to take our order. We sat in the restaurant. We ordered fizzy water for my wife and tap water for me. We got one small bottle of still water. That was put right. We thought my wife 's starter cheese souffle was a bit stodgy. I had Cesar salad with prawns and crayfish. I asked if I could have some bread. We heard the waiter expressing his displeasure as he left the dining room. I was served with two chunks of slightly burnt toast no butter. For the main course my wife ordered Aged Fillet of Norfolk Beef Horseradish Dauphinoise Potatoes, Winter Greens, Saffron Parsnip Purée, Root Vegetable Ratatouille, Red Wine Jus but with chips instead of dauphinoise potatoes and she asked not to be served with the Parsnip puree and the Ratatouille. She got one small piece of fillet steak and a stainless steel bucket of chips on her plate. Both the plate and the bucket were very hot so she asked the waiter to move the bucket from the plate. He said that he did not know how do this ?? so I used my napkin to move it. We asked for a steak knife and this was provided although later the manager told us they did not provide steak knives ?? . The fillet steak was a bit tough and sinewy. We were upset by now and complained to the waiter about my wife 's food. After presumably talking with the kitchen staff he said that that was what we ordered. I said we were very clear when we placed our order as we discussed it with the young lady who took the order. No management involvement yet. The waiter returned to our table with some wilted greens but by now we were very upset and left our food. So as not to embarrass other diners, we asked to speak with the manager and went to sit outside. The Manager joined us, was apologetic and said she would not charge us for the meal and drinks. This in no way compensated for our ruined evening. This was probably the worst restaurant experience we have ever had.
The service in the restaurant was impeccable, with friendly and helpful staff. Although they were young and inexperienced, they made up for it with their dedication to making our visit enjoyable. The wine glasses were disappointingly small, especially for a wine like Chateau du Tertre which deserved larger glasses. It was odd that they didn't change the glasses for different types of wine. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and worth the price. We ordered more than we needed since we expected smaller portions. I would recommend the vegan shared platter, which was both delicious and generously sized. The highlight of our evening at Caistor Hall was dining in the restaurant, with its cozy atmosphere, background music, and view of the garden. It was a very enjoyable and relaxed evening.
