We had fillet steak and Fish and Chips. The start was perfect, melting and full of flavour perfectly cooked. Trad fish and chips. The chips were perfect too. Staff are lovely and very attentive. This is a treasure of a pub !
This is an old Brakspear 's pub in a quiet village, but very close to the M40 Junction 6. Brakspear, the pub company, split from the brewery many years ago, but the Leathern Bottle still includes the excellent Brakspear Gravity, currently brewed in Witney, amongst its three ale offerings. Sadly, Carlberg Marston 's has recently announced the closure of the brewery in Witney, a very ill informed and short sighted decision, in my opinion. No doubt they will continue to produce a beer branded 'Brakspear ' in Burton or Wolverhampton, but it is unlikely the unique brewing process and recipe will be exactly replicated. However, I digress rant over back to the pub; it 's been many years since I last visited, almost certainly it was the last century, but it has changed little inside. There are two separate characterful bars with wooden beams very much the archetypal country pub, which Brakspear 's is famous for. Hanging from the beams is a multitude of racecourse passes, collected over many years. The menu is fairly straightforward, you aren 't going to find anything really exciting on it, but the food is all freshly prepared and exceptional quality. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is very good. There 's a decent beer garden to the front of the pub. The car park isn 't huge but, if full, it shouldn 't be difficult to find street parking nearby.
Lovely pub and staff and restaurant was busy with people having full meals. However we were on a long walk and only wanted a sandwich. They were very nice baguettes and came with a small portion of chips and salad. However we did feel that £34.00 for 2 baguettes £12.00 each) and 2 pints was more than a little steep!!! Cost of living and all that. Shame.
Visited this pub with family (a group of eight of us). We were made to feel very welcome, and staff were super friendly. Food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. We all had a lovely evening, and will definitely be back.... Highly recommend
The rules were acceptable, but I received rude treatment. When the staff was confronted about their behavior, it escalated significantly.
